Anaphylaxis

Sorry its been a while since I've posted. Seems like everything has hit at once at our house by way of events. Here is what happened to me the first part of March.

www.webmd.com - definition of Anaphylaxis:

Anaphylaxis is a serious, potentially life-threatening allergic response that is marked by swelling, hives, lowered blood pressure, and dilated blood vessels. In severe cases, a person will go into shock. If anaphylactic shock isn't treated immediately, it can be fatal.

Has this ever happened to you? A few weeks ago it happened to me. Turns out I am allergic to sulfa. Sulfa is an ingredient in some medications. I was on the 9th day of a 10 day antibiotic for a skin infection and started my Saturday with hives on my arms and legs. I stopped taking the medication and started to take benadryl and continued through my day, went out to eat for Cliff's dad Tosh's birthday, put Cecilia to bed. After getting her to bed I wasn't feeling very good like my food wasn't settling on my stomach. I started to get VERY cold, so cold that my teeth were chattering uncontrollably and I could NOT warm up. I decided that I would try a HOT bath and if that didn't help I would probably have to go to the hospital.

Well it didn't work. I was VERY lucky that my mom was in town and could come be with the kids. She arrived while I was in the restroom losing my dinner to the porcelain god the toilet. Get to the E.R. and they got me taken right back and started to get me fixed up. After a lot of medical attention including 2 days in the ICU and 1 day in the regular hospital I was free to go which was a Tuesday.

The rest of the week I slept and did a little here and there but Cliff took care of most EVERYTHING, the kids, the house, the laundry, me. By Friday I was finally feeling good enough to drive. I was very surprised how full body this knocked me on my butt. My vision had been severely blurry for about a whole week. My gums even hurt when I brushed my teeth. My back molars I feel were bruised from the chattering and are just now (about 3 weeks post shock) feeling back to normal.

What a thing to have to go through but WOW what a great husband and family I have. Thanks to any of you that read this that helped with the kids, meals, words of encouragement. I LOVE you and really appreciate your help in my time of need.
